One-Stop
Career Center System
Multimedia Career Video Library
New Jersey’s
Center for Occupational Employment Information (COEI), a member
of America’s Career Resource Network, announces the latest
release in the ongoing program to develop a multimedia library of
career video to support the One-Stop Career Center System. This
release contains the entire video library of 487 videos and eight
(8) new clips on SCANS competencies. In addition, there is one (1)
CD containing three (3) royalty-free still shots from each of the
50 new and/or updated career clips.
The COEI introduced the innovative One-Stop Career Center System
Multimedia Career Video Library in 1998 and production is continuing
through Program Year 2006. Developed and distributed under a grant
from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training
Administration, the COEI is the lead agency in this effort designed
to provide “a brief, visual introduction to careers and the
world of work.” The career videos, each approximately 90 seconds
in length, typically cover the rewards and compromises of specific
careers, their upsides and downsides, and their skill requirements
and duties. It is important for jobseekers to understand the legitimate
reality of a potential long-term career before diving in.
With this release, the library now contains 16 clips for the career
clusters listed in the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology
Act of 1998, seven (7) videos centered on career characteristics,
five (5) industry videos, 23 clips on SCANS attributes, 495 career
videos and royalty-free still photographs of all profiled careers.
The videos are compressed into MPEG-1 open-captioned and uncaptioned
formats that are distributed on 17 CDs; and QuickTime©, which
are contained on 13 CDs.
The CDs containing the video clips are public domain software and
are released without usage restrictions. Public and private vendors
are free to use the clips in whatever manner they see fit to promote
career decision making. The following narrative is presented for
use if a state or agency wishes to include an attribution statement.
The career videos were developed and distributed by the New Jersey
Center for Occupational Employment Information under a grant from
the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.
They are designed to provide a brief, visual introduction to careers
and the world of work.
A complete set is being sent to each state Career Resource Network
Director, Director of Career and Technical Education, Labor Market
Information Director, and One-Stop Coordinator. Public and private
career information delivery system developers and providers and
other agencies may request copies of the CD set or a partial set.
When doing so, please list the type of compression format(s) requested
and provide a brief statement that describes the program that will
utilize these clips. Please email your requests to
robert.massanova@dol.state.nj.us.
If you have any questions, please contact the COEI at (609) 292-2682.
