2005 Job Vacancy Survey
About
the Job Vacancy Survey
In the
fall of 2005, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce
Development conducted a job vacancy/hiring needs survey for
the State of New Jersey and its labor
areas. Using a telephone survey, more than 6,000 companies
were contacted in the major industry groups.
The results
of the survey allow jobseekers to see what kinds of jobs are
in demand in late 2005 and during 2006 and help workforce
decision-makers to plan and evaluate their job placement,
and workforce development program needs. Employers benefit
from current labor market information, such as wages and benefits
offered for occupations similar to those that they are employing.
Additionally the survey:
- Identifies occupations and industries where the demand
for workers is the strongest over the short term.
- Provides the upper and lower ranges of wages/salaries
for each job opening.
- Shows whether a particular job opening offers fringe benefits
such as medical insurance, sick leave or a pension/retirement
savings plan.
For
each job title, employers were also asked:
- How long has this vacancy been open?
- What is the type of experience required to qualify for
this vacancy?
- Is certification or licensing required to fill this vacancy?
- Does this vacancy offer any medical insurance benefits?
- Is wage/salary period for this job per hour per year?
- Is this vacancy permanent or seasonal?
- What education does the vacancy require?
- Is this vacancy for a part-time or full-time position?
